Each Horadric Jewel requires a hefty investment: 45,000 Gem Fragments—spread evenly across three different gem types—and an additional 3,000 Horadric Phials. This places Horadric Jewels just below Grand Gems in terms of cost, but their impact can be significantly greater due to  Diablo IV Gold their synergy with Horadric Spells. Choosing the right combination of Jewels and Spells can unlock powerful new combat interactions, enabling builds that feel fresh and strategically deep.

This cost, however, makes resource management more important than ever. Players can't afford to waste fragments crafting Gems they won't end up using, especially when they're gearing toward these high-value socketables. Holding onto your fragments until your build begins to take shape is now a smart and necessary approach.

Gem Fragment Farming Is Easier in Season 9

The developers of Diablo 4 have responded to the increased demand for Gem Fragments by expanding the ways players can obtain them. In past seasons, fragments were found in dungeon chests, dropped by elite enemies,or rewarded through caches from seasonal quests. These sources still exist, but they've been supplemented in Season 9 with far more reliable and rewarding methods.

The most consistent source now comes from the Infernal Hordes endgame activity. Players who brave this wave-based challenge and ultimately defeat the Fell Council are rewarded with Burning Aether. This special currency can be exchanged for several types of loot, but the Spoils of Materials cache is particularly appealing. It offers a generous haul of Gem Fragments, making it a top choice for anyone looking to stock up.

Moreover,Season 9 introduces new Nightmare Sigils with Horadric-themed affixes. These sigils are used to modify Nightmare Dungeons, and they come with unique modifiers like Horadric Gold Reserve,Horadric Materials Reserve, and crucially,Horadric Gem Reserve. Running a dungeon under the influence of a Horadric Gem Reserve sigil dramatically increases the number of Gem Fragments dropped, effectively supercharging your farming efforts. With the right sigils and efficient dungeon clearing, players can now farm hundreds—or even thousands—of fragments in a single session.

Strategic Fragment Usage Is Key

Because of the sheer volume of Gem Fragments required to craft high-end Gems or Horadric Jewels, players must plan their resource usage carefully. Crafting a single Grand Gem used to require as many as 100,000 fragments of a specific type—a tall order even for veteran players. Now,the decision becomes even more layered: do you continue investing in powerful Gems for direct stat boosts,or do you save those fragments to craft Horadric Jewels that enhance your spell capabilities?

This decision is especially important for players who experiment with multiple builds. Not all Horadric Jewels work equally well with all spells or playstyles. A tanky Druid build may benefit more from a Jewel that boosts damage mitigation effects, while a glass cannon Sorcerer might seek one that extends spell duration or applies crowd-control debuffs. Because crafting a Jewel is so expensive, choosing the wrong one can set your progression back significantly.

Players are advised to test their builds using lower-tier Gems first, then gradually invest in Horadric Jewels once they've committed to a particular playstyle. The smart use of Season 9's increased Gem Fragment sources allows for  buy Diablo 4 Gold this kind of incremental experimentation without feeling overly punishing.
